Sixth class

Deductive Teaching strategy:
I felt like i was taken back to my high school days, this was the strategy our teachers used on us. well it is not interesting and not interactive.
It is a teacher centered learning where teacher do most of the things in the class and students are like a active listener. teachers lead the students from unknown to known, abstract to concrete and complex to easy. It is just the opposite of inductive learning strategy.
It has got some phases too and those are:

  • Presentation  of abstraction
  • The teacher illustrates it with examples
  • Students give examples of the concepts and apply them in new situations.
  • Students restate the concept or definition that they have learned
  • advantages:
    • it consume a less time
    • logical interlinking is encouraged
    • most of the school curriculum can be taught
    • involves all levels of questions

  • disadvantages:
    • students are not actively involved
    • it is not challenging for the brighter students

    Role of the teachers:
    •  present principles and generalizations
    • need to plan, research and teach content
    • active speaker
    • illustrate examples
    • provides guidance and scaffoldin
