Sixth class

Deductive Teaching strategy:
I felt like i was taken back to my high school days, this was the strategy our teachers used on us. well it is not interesting and not interactive.
It is a teacher centered learning where teacher do most of the things in the class and students are like a active listener. teachers lead the students from unknown to known, abstract to concrete and complex to easy. It is just the opposite of inductive learning strategy.
It has got some phases too and those are:

  • Presentation  of abstraction
  • The teacher illustrates it with examples
  • Students give examples of the concepts and apply them in new situations.
  • Students restate the concept or definition that they have learned
  • advantages:
    • it consume a less time
    • logical interlinking is encouraged
    • most of the school curriculum can be taught
    • involves all levels of questions

  • disadvantages:
    • students are not actively involved
    • it is not challenging for the brighter students

    Role of the teachers:
    •  present principles and generalizations
    • need to plan, research and teach content
    • active speaker
    • illustrate examples
    • provides guidance and scaffoldin

Fifth class

Today also we looked through inductive teaching strategy but the difference is that now we know more about it. we went deeply about the four phases of inductive strategy and could understand it better after the activity we did in the class. well! we knew that we cannot teach all the topics with this strategy but there are some topics we can go with the strategy. In the activity our group went with teaching a short story using the strategy but we used it wrongly and we understood where it went wrong.
It is to do with following the four phases, giving the examples and non examples and making the patterns from it or understanding the differences. And then constructing the definitions from the examples and finally understand to use it in the real life situations.

Forth class

we went deeply about inductive teaching and learning strategy.. to my understanding it is a learning taken place from self discovery. when i learn from my self experiences and when i learn from my own ideas or source, i get the opportunity to take over ownership of what i have learned and in the process i tent to remember it for a longer duration.it is process of going through known to unknown..what i have known,  i use the idea and support from my tutors and discover the things close to my known. we looked through the purposes of inductive learning and teaching strategy and some of the steps.

some of the advantages of IT/LS are: it keeps the children involve and makes to participate in the class..it can be used in every level of education..and some of the disadvantages are it is time consuming and it is frustrating for some of the slow pace learner...
we went through some of the phases of ITS and they are open ended phase, convergent phase, closure phase and application phase.
open ended phase is where teacher provides with lots of examples and non examples.
convergent phase is where the patterns are distinguished between examples and non examples, it is to compare between the examples and non examples.
closure phase is where they define on their own words after understanding the differences.
application phase is to understand where the concept can be used in real life situations.

Third class

we went briefly about strategy, method and skills. we were assigned with a group task and will be presenting about the topics soon.

Sunday, March 11, 2012

Second class

We discussed about strategy, method, approaches, skill and technique. And we settled down with method and approach as similar and skill and technique as similar. we learned their definitions.

First class

Well we talked about a risky period which was a very important aspect for a someone like us as we are just stepping towards it, And later we bounded ourselves with the ground rules.....
